2027: Tinubu should step in because the APC primary is a fraud—Arise

The leader of the All Progressives Congress and candidate for the Ekiti North Senatorial District ticket, Ayodele Arise, called the party’s primary election a farce.

Following the exercise’s conclusion, he urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act immediately to address the crisis.

State governors continued to be a significant obstacle to the recent APC primaries running smoothly, according to a statement released over the weekend by Arise.

Recall that Senator Cyril Fasuyi, the current representative for Ekiti North, was proclaimed the winner by the APC Committee, which oversaw the proceedings.

But since then, Arise and other candidates for the ticket, such as Dare Owolabi and Dipo Bamisaye, have rejected the result as manipulative and fraudulent.

The primary was a hoax, according to Senator Arise, who served as the senatorial district’s representative from 2007 to 2011, and the party is merely acknowledging the crisis the election caused.

Internal democracy remains a formidable obstacle. Having a Constitution is one thing, but trying to get around it or the rules governing any election is quite another.

“I tried to return through the primary because I knew what was coming, so I went into it to prove a point, which was a clear demonstration of that.

“It would be unfortunate if some of us went through this country without having the voice to correct the anomalies and tell people that we should practice democracy if we so choose. It’s a whole other story if we don’t want it.

“I really don’t want to overstate the experience I had during the primary because I think the party chairman has spoken with Mr. President and I think they are looking at all the challenges, and I am sure those of us who worked and won our elections will be given our mandate in due course.”

People react to issues as we find them, and I think more than anyone else that our President has been very proactive in addressing some of these issues, working on them, and making sure that corrections are made before it’s too late,” he said.

“The issue of the governors is still a major problem in terms of trying to get to the Senate,” he continued.

“The chances of you making it are a little bit very challenging even if you are not running against them or if you are not their preferred candidate.”

The APC primaries last month were tainted by controversy, according to the DAILY POST.
