The Katsina state government has called in Islamic cleric Yahaya Masussuka for questioning regarding allegations that his sermons violate established Islamic law principles.
This was announced on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, via his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Almu-Gafai.
The government stated that it had received several reports suggesting Masussuka’s religious advice was inconsistent with recognized Islamic standards. This raised worries about how the cleric’s teachings might affect public order and religious harmony in the state.
The statement also mentioned that the government received a complaint from Masussuka himself, alleging that members of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bidia group were insulting him and threatening to attack him. This indicates the issue has grown into mutual accusations between the cleric and the Islamic group.
To resolve the conflict and prevent further tension, the matter was forwarded to the Katsina Emirate Council. Both Masussuka and the group were summoned for discussions, allowing the Council to review the claims and counterclaims and recommend steps to restore peace.
Faskari urged the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and cooperate with officials as the matter is being handled with care and fairness.
