Activist lawyer Maduabuchi Idam has fiercely criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s recent remark that “hunger is over” in Nigeria, calling the statement “unguarded,” “insensitive,” and a “mockery” of the hardship citizens are facing.
Idam argued that Akpabio’s comment, which included an appeal for Nigerians abroad to return home, only serves to confirm that the Senate President is “totally disconnected from the realities of everyday life” in the country.
In his statement, Idam accused the high-ranking politician of deliberately insulting the sensibilities of the majority of Nigerians who are struggling with “real-time economic hardship,” which the lawyer attributes to the “poor management of the economy.”
Idam concluded with a pointed jab: “Those whose stomachs are full should not assume they are smarter than others who are hungry.”
