The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has instructed Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), to submit all overdue paperwork and present himself before the committee on Monday, December 15, 2025. This meeting is required to address audit questions related to the company’s spending from January through December 2021. The committee chairman, Honorable Bamidele Salam, issued this order during the Monday session in Abuja. Salam conveyed the committee’s frustration with the NNPCL’s repeated failure to attend prior sessions or provide requested documents, despite numerous attempts to notify them, cautioning that any further disregard for the committee’s monitoring functions would not be permitted. Salam read a letter from the NNPCL explaining the GCEO’s absence, citing his engagement in another crucial task at the Presidential Villa. Nevertheless, PAC members collectively criticized the company’s actions as disrespectful toward the National Assembly and obstructive to the audit process. Following a plea from the NNPCL’s liaison officer to the National Assembly, Honorable Umar Faruk, the committee agreed to allow one final postponement, setting Monday, December 15, as the ultimate date for the company to appear and produce every outstanding document. Salam reminded the representative, “We have agreed as a committee to give you up till next week Monday, the 15th of December, for a fresh appearance. Remember, the committee is very busy; we are dealing with so many issues.” The NNPCL must respond to several audit queries from the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation, which include alleged payments made to contractors for projects that were abandoned, failure to remit necessary taxes, and unauthorized financial releases reportedly approved by the Chief Finance Officer without proper authorization from the Group Managing Director.
