According to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), in January, the national system had an average of 4,901 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity, out of 13,625 MW.According to NERC’s January 2026 Operational Performance Factsheet on its X handle, this amounts to 36% of the energy dispatched throughout the 13,625 MW installed capacity.It stated that Ihovbor_2, Kainji_1, and Jebba_1 stood out with great availability and high utilisation levels, and that an average load factor of 90% indicated that 4,421 MWh/h of available capacity was utilised. He stated that the monthly average lower grid voltage (305.52kV) and upper grid voltage (348.45kV) exceeded the recommended limits (313.50kV-346.50kV) and the monthly average lower grid frequency (49.03Hz) and upper grid frequency (50.66Hz) exceeded the recommended limits (49.75Hz-50.25Hz).
