The Adamawa State Police Command has provided additional details regarding a reported suicide case at the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
On Sunday night, the Command confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the incident involving 27-year-old Olajuni Ayomiposi, a student who allegedly took his own life after being prevented from sitting for his final examination.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Nguroje, the Command identified the student as Ojajuni Ayo, an indigene of Ondo State.
Nguroje detailed the events as reported by the institution’s Chief Security Officer: “On the 07/12/2025, the Command received a report… that on 06/12/2025 at about 11:30 am, a student named Ojajuni Ayomiposi returned to the campus in a tricycle, visibly staggering, and jumped over the fence into the hostel premises.”
A security guard went to check on him shortly thereafter and discovered him vomiting and unconscious. He was immediately taken to a nearby Hospital, where he was admitted but later confirmed dead while undergoing treatment.
The police confirmed that Ayomiposi’s body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy. Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered a detailed and comprehensive investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the student’s death.
Initial Accounts
Earlier, unconfirmed reports suggested that Ayomiposi had consumed a poisonous substance, believed to be rat poison, on Saturday, December 6th, after he was barred from taking his bar examination, which began that day. He reportedly fell ill after ingesting the substance, was taken to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, and passed away by Sunday morning, December 7th.
One account had alleged that Ayomiposi was barred from the examination because he failed to respond to official queries from the school administration. It was further rumored that he did not meet the required 75 percent attendance threshold, thereby disqualifying him from the final examination.
