AFCON 2025: Kenneth Omeruo warns Super Eagles ahead of Tunisia clash.

Prior to their AFCON 2025 group match in Morocco, former Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has advised Nigeria not to underestimate Tunisia.

Kenneth Omeruo, a former Nigerian international, has advised the Super Eagles to play Tunisia in first 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage match with tactical knowledge and complete focus.

On Saturday, Nigeria and Tunisia will play in what is expected to be a pivotal Group C match at the 40,000-seat Fez Stadium in Morocco.

Both teams enter the match fresh off strong first-round wins, with Tunisia defeating Uganda 3-1 and Nigeria defeating Tanzania 2-1.

Omeruo warns that the Super Eagles must avoid complacency because they may be in danger of making it to the round of 16 and that the North Africans are a different kind of threat.

The 31-year-old defender, who was a member of Nigeria’s AFCON 2013 winning team, emphasized Tunisia’s technical prowess and tactical discipline in an interview with media.

“It’s an important game. If we win, we go into the next round, but we have to be careful because Tunisia are more technical than our last opponents,” Omeruo said.

He added that while Nigeria’s mindset should always be to push for victory, the team must also be prepared for a more structured and intelligent opponent.

“We will always play to win, but I don’t expect anything short of good football as well,” he stated.

Omeruo’s caution carries weight, given his antecedent at the continental level.

He was a key figure in the late Stephen Keshi’s legendary Super Eagles side that lifted the AFCON trophy in South Africa in 2013.

Omeruo forged a strong defensive alliance with Godfrey Oboabona, Joseph Yobo, and Elderson Echiéjilé during that historic run.

The former Chelsea defender emphasized the value of preparation, collaboration, and tactical discipline when taking on technically skilled teams like Tunisia, drawing on that experience.
