The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken custody of Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, the man accused of kidnapping and murdering Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer Lasisi Funmilayo and her daughter, Sewa, in separate incidents in Ogun and Osun states.
Fajemirokun, aged 36, was apprehended in Ghana on Sunday after attempting to escape Nigerian security forces.
George Ohene-Boadi, Commander of the Eastern South Regional Police in Ghana, confirmed the arrest was prompted by a circulating video alleging the suspect’s role in the abduction and murder.
NPF spokesperson Benjamin Hundyin confirmed in a Monday statement that the fugitive was formally handed over to Nigerian authorities.
The statement said, “The Nigeria Police Force, through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has taken full custody of fugitive suspect Victor Benjamin Fejemirokun.”
Hundeyin noted that the transfer was the result of a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies.
Acting on information that the suspect was in Ghana, Ghanaian authorities arrested him and immediately informed Interpol NCB Abuja, which then sent a team to Accra to finalize the extradition.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun offered his condolences to the victims’ family and promised the public that the investigation will be thorough.
He added that Fajemirokun will face charges in court once the investigation is finished.
Egbetokun also thanked the Ghana Police Service for their cooperation and professionalism throughout the operation.
