Ismaeel Ahmed, an All Progressives Congress (APC) leader, has called rumors that he intends to run for president in 2027 in lieu of Vice President Kashim Shettima “malicious.”
This comes amid mounting rumors of a breach between Shettima and President Bola Tinubu, according to Naija News.
Speaking on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, on Channels Television’s Politics Today show, the former APC Board of Trustees member maintained that there was no truth to the rumors that Tinubu and Shettima were not happy.
Ahmed urged party members, including Nigerians, to put governance above political diversion and reaffirmed that there are no plans to replace Shettima.
The administration still has a large portion of its job to fulfill, he continued.
He said, “It’s (friction) not true. I know it very well. Who is ever in a 100 per cent relationship with anyone? There is trust between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. We are trying to create an issue where there is none.
“All of these, as far as I am concerned, are rumours—absolutely rumours. I am absolutely aware there is no discussion about substituting the Vice President. There is no discussion about the vice president being blocked.
“Those are all malicious rumours by people who probably don’t understand what’s going on in the presidency or don’t know how the presidency works.
“The voters have given us a four-year mandate. Two years have gone by; the primaries are in a year and the general elections are in two. For heaven’s sake, we are a party in government and a government in power. This implies that we must at the very least abide with INEC’s regulations. Let’s concentrate on governance.
“Let’s promote the numerous things we are doing well. We must successfully communicate with the public. The administration and the party should concentrate on that. Any deviation from that serves as a distraction.
