The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Adamawa State has denied media claims that, during its recent stakeholders’ meeting in Hong Local Government Area, the party supported Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), for any elected political office.
The party clarified in a statement released on Tuesday by State Publicity Secretary Muhammad Abdullahi that the gathering was a component of a continuing grassroots mobilization trip throughout the state’s local government districts.
The party’s stakeholders gathering on Sunday was chaotic as the leaders of the Borno State party asked that Vice President Kashim Shettima be endorsed as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in 2027.
This scenario was believed to have occurred when some Adamawa State party leaders pushed for Ribadu to succeed Shettima.
The APC’s Adamawa State branch, however, has rejected the action, calling the story a “mischievous distortion” of the actual goal and conclusion of the meeting.
The APC chapter in Adamawa State has taken notice of a story that has been making the rounds in several media outlets about Mallam Nuhu Ribadu’s alleged endorsement.
“We wish to state categorically that the report is entirely misleading and misrepresents the purpose and proceedings of the meeting held in Hong,” he said.
According to the statement, the gathering was organised to strengthen party unity, re-energise grassroots structures, and communicate the unanimous decision of the APC’s state, zonal, and national leadership to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.
“The meeting was held in continuation of our ongoing local government tours aimed at mobilising our members and passing down the collective position of the party at all levels—that President Tinubu deserves another term of four years,” the statement noted.
The party explained that although Ribadu, a distinguished son of Adamawa State, did get a vote of confidence for his work as NSA, the vote should not be interpreted as supporting any political aspirations.
“Supporting the NSA or any political appointee has no rationale or foundation.
“The President alone has the authority to appoint people. Abdullahi continued, “As a party, we respect that prerogative and cannot impose or preempt his decisions.”
The APC insisted that Ribadu’s praise was only due to his services to national security and the favorable impression he had given Adamawa State as a result of his prominent position in the government.
