When UEFA and the South American body CONMEBOL vehemently rejected FIFA’s proposals for a biennial World Cup in 2021, the competition between the two continental champions was reinstated.Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, defeated Italy 3-0 in the 2022 match. The South American team will return to the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, where they won the world championship three years prior. Argentina and Spain have faced off 14 times, with six victories apiece.
