A contract has been signed by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) to build its new Corporate Headquarters and Air Traffic Management (ATM) Center in Abuja. Engineer Ahmed Umar Farouk, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of NAMA, spoke at the contract signing ceremony in Abuja and characterized the project as a strategic investment meant to bring Nigeria’s airspace management system into compliance with international best practices.According to Daily Trust, NAMA has been functioning out of a rented flat since its headquarters were moved to Abuja in 2020 by Senator Hadi Sirika, the immediate previous Minister of Aviation. Since the move, the agency has accumulated billions of naira in rent. In defending the new headquarters, the MD stated that it will house NAMA’s corporate offices as well as a centralized Air Traffic Management (ATM) Center, which is a significant operational change from the formerly decentralized structure.
