After a concerted security operation, Nigerian forces have eliminated at least 45 armed bandits close to Kuchi town in the Munya Local Government Area of Niger State.
This was revealed on Wednesday by Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency specialist in the Lake Chad region, in a post on his X account.
According to the article, Makama revealed that early on Monday morning, military tactical units and Department of State Services (DSS) personnel worked together to carry out the operation.
The terrorists were on their way to carry out coordinated attacks on the areas surrounding Kuchi when they were apprehended, Makama said, adding that the bandits were thought to be loyal to infamous terrorist Dogo Gide.
According to Makama, who cited an anonymous source, “the insurgents, estimated to be over 100 in number, had mobilized from Bilbis Forest in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara and other hideouts in Kaduna State.”
He continued by saying that the security forces and the bandits fought a bloody gunfight on the outskirts of Kuchi, killing at least 45 of the attackers while wounding a number of others.
Several motorcycles, weapons, and ammo were also recovered as a result of the operation.
Five DSS officers, however, were hurt during the exchange and are presently being treated at an unidentified medical facility.
