The installation of the new Epe Olu has been put on hold by Surah Animashaun, the chairperson of the Epe Local Government Area in Lagos State.
Right now, the stool is being claimed by two people.
Animashaun, who also suspended the Eid-al-Kabir celebration and Jumat prayer in the local council’s primary mosque and eid site, made this known in a letter delivered to the the community’s Grand Chief Imam on Tuesday.
She claims that two well-liked chiefs in the village, Chief Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro and Chief Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji, have been identifying themselves as Oba Shefiu Adewale’s successor since his death.
The LG chairman stated that she made the choice in order to prevent security concerns and unanticipated events brought on by the supporters of the two self-proclaimed monarchs.
Following the dual installation of the new Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom on June 2, 2025, which is legally void due to the recent death of Oba Shefiu Adewale, the immediate Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, I am writing to notify your office that High Chiefs Adeniyi Kadri Odedeogboro and Iskilu Olajide Ikuforiji, who both presented themselves as the newly installed Olu-Epe of Epe Kingdom, are hereby suspended until further notice from the authorities.
“The celebration of Eid-l-Adha (Ileya) and Jumat services at the first Epe Central Mosque, Oke Balogun, and Eid Ground, located on Eid Street, Oke Balogun Epe, respectively, is therefore cancelled due to unanticipated circumstances, security concerns, public health difficulties, and everything else.
“More information on the aforementioned topic will be shared.”
Oba Shefiu Adewale, 86, passed away early on Saturday, May 31, 2025, according to reports.
Musiliu Adeniyi, High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, confirmed the death to our correspondent on Saturday, stating that the king will be buried that same day.
“The information is accurate. It happened this morning.
“He will be laid to rest at four o’clock today,” Adeniyi stated.
Oba Adewale held the third-highest chieftaincy title in the country, Otun-Balogun, before ascending to the throne. He was then elevated to Balogun and proclaimed king.
