The National Sports Commission (NSC) successfully held elections across 16 sports federations on Saturday, October 25, 2025, marking a historic and pivotal moment for Nigerian sports. The newly elected Presidents and Board members were then sworn in at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. Stakeholders from all over the country attended the event, which took place at the stadium’s Package B complex. It demonstrated a renewed dedication to honesty, professionalism, and creativity in Nigerian sports administration. The elections yielded a mix of new and old leadership, indicating a deliberate attempt to strike a balance between experience and fresh perspectives. The intensity and high stakes of sports administration in Nigeria were highlighted by the occasional drama and controversy, despite the generally calm atmosphere. With the exception of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), which held elections earlier this year, and the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), whose elections are set for 2026, all federations successfully elected new boards.
