After William Troost-Ekong retires, Wilfred Ndidi will lead the Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, according to the DAILY POST. On Thursday, Troost-Ekong declared his retirement from international football. Ndidi will formally assume the position in the AFCON after leading the Super Eagles at the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs in Morocco last month. Moses Simon, a winger and midfielder, is currently the Super Eagles’ most senior player. It is anticipated that Simon will be appointed vice captain. Ndidi has 71 caps for the Super Eagles since making his debut in August 2015. He was unable to attend the postponed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire last year due to an injury.
