In the men’s category, Kalada Kienkanumbert, the defending champion and number three seed, defeated Akeem Mustafa 6-3, 6-3 on Tuesday night. Destiny Da Silva, the defending champion and number three seed, defeated Godwin Kienka 6-0, 6-4 to record his second victory, just as women’s number one seed, Mirella Eccli, easily defeated Effiong Ejehi 6-0, 6-1. Men’s top seed, Chiwete Njokanma, was ruthful.Diran Famakinwa, chairman of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, stated that he was not shocked by the best players’ accomplishments during the current competition. “We have selected the best of the best for this year’s final tournament, but there may be upsets along the way because those who came up with the Top Eight ranking have done a good job,” Famakinwa stated. The Top Eight Tennis Masters, sponsored by Megabound, will take place at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Tennis Courts today and conclude on Saturday, December 13.
