Ex-Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has said that the squad has lost its fear factor. According to Okocha, teams are no longer terrified of playing against Nigeria While responding to inquiries on The Exchange with Femi Soneye, he made this assertion. “There were no questions in our home back then; it didn’t matter who you were—it just mattered how many,” Okocha remarked. “We built our home as a stronghold, but now it seems like we’re weaker there. We’ve lost that fear factor.” In the past, nations were afraid to play Nigeria. People want to play against us now. Okocha made this statement prior to Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup playoff matchup with Gabon. After a wild performance in the qualifying series, the Eagles narrowly qualified as one of the top runners-up from the Africa zone.
