With his impending return to management at Panathinaikos, Rafa Benitez will earn the highest salary of any Greek coach. After being let go from Celta Vigo in March, the former manager of Real Madrid and Liverpool has been unemployed for more than a year. Benitez will sign a two-year contract with Panathinaikos, who have nine points from six games and are presently sixth in the league. Despite having a game in hand, they are now eight points behind leaders PAOK. After meeting with club president Giannis Alafouzos in London, Benitez reportedly approved the record-breaking £3.47 million sale, according to Dutch publication De Telegraaf.Panathinaikos has only won the league title twice this century and hasn’t done so since 2010.
