The Nigerian military has occupied the Oke-Isegun community in Eruku, Kwara State, following the bandit attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) on Tuesday, which resulted in three deaths and the abduction of several worshippers.
A community spokesman, Ayeni Olanipekun, confirmed the development, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, is also in Eruku with his team. Olanipekun stated, “As we speak, the soldiers have taken over Eruku,” and mentioned that the deployment was reportedly approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He also noted that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was expected to arrive in Eruku.
Regarding rescue efforts, Olanipekun said that several local hunters sent to search the forests have not yet returned, indicating that the search is ongoing.
A viral video showed the bandits firing shots inside the church, with worshippers, both old and young, attempting to take cover. The video also captured bandits pursuing worshippers into smaller rooms and gathering handbags left behind on the seats.
