The Muslim Right Concern (MURIC) condemned the abduction of 25 boarding students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.
Dr. Abdullahi Bello Umar, the Chairman of MURIC, Kebbi State Chapter, expressed sadness and called the kidnapping egregious, callous, and cowardly. He stated that the incident is a severe violation of human rights, an attack on education, and a major threat to national security.
The association also denounced the killing of the Vice Principal, a Muslim named Mallam Hassan Makuku, and the injury sustained by the school guard. MURIC declared its solidarity with the abducted girls, their families, and the community.
MURIC urged the Federal Government, Kebbi State government, and all security agencies to intensify and maintain search-and-rescue operations, using intelligence, military, police, and local resources. The group stressed that the presidential order to safely rescue the students and prosecute the perpetrators must be taken seriously, as citizens need to trust in the government’s ability to protect them.
MURIC also countered the claim that the incident occurred in a “Christian enclave,” calling the assertion “laughable” and “far from the truth.” They noted that there is no Christian enclave in Kebbi, pointing out that the killed Vice Principal was Muslim, and television footage shows parents visiting the school are clad in hijab, indicating they are Muslims.
