In yesterday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 34 encounter, Barau FC defeated defending champions Remo Stars 2-1 to keep their undefeated record, but coach Usman Abdallah’s return to his hometown of Kano ended in defeat.
The former Kano Pillars coach aimed for a fifth victory since taking over Remo Stars in February, but Barau FC, who were still enjoying their two away draws, proved to be a difficult opponent.
Following a scoreless first half at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Remo Stars took the lead through Hadi Haruna in the 63rd minute. However, former Lobi Stars and Enyimba FC attacking winger Joseph Atule tied the score for Barau FC in the 70th, and Joseph Kemin completed the comeback victory in the 83rd to move Barau FC up to ninth place in the standings.
After their most recent home loss against Kano Pillars on March 8, the “Maliya Boys” have now won four games.
Before defeating Remo Stars yesterday, they had already defeated Abia Warriors 2-0 and drawn two away games against Wikki Tourists and Enugu Rangers.
But after losing to championship contenders Ikorodu City 3-0, Kano Pillars had yet another depressing day.
Before Tosin Oyedokun and Abayomi Ayodeji each scored a goal in the second half to give the Lagos boys a decisive victory, City led 1-0 at the half.
In Umuahia, relegation-bound Kun Khalifat crushed Warri Wolves 3-0, scoring twice in the second half and once in the first.
In other news, Enyimba defeated Katsina United 3-0 in Aba to get back on track.
Enyimba’s first goal came from Stanley Dimgba in the 23rd minute, followed by a double from Chidera Michael in the 41st and a third goal from Wonah Williams in the 79th.
Just as Kwara United pushed 3SC to a 0-0 draw in Ibadan, second-place Enugu Rangers forced Tornadoes to a goalless draw in Minna, and Rivers United returned to the top of the table in Port Harcourt following a hard-earned 1-0 triumph against Plateau United.
At the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Wikki Tourists upset Bayelsa United 1-0 to record the lone away victory.
