For this year’s Nationwide League One (NLO) tournament, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, the Deputy President of the Senate, generously covered the registration costs for all 66 clubs in the state.
Recall that last year, at the request of the leadership of the Nationwide League One Football Clubs Forum, Kano State chapter, the Senator made the same gesture to the clubs.
During a courtesy call at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, Senator Barau announced the payment of N25 million in 2026 registration fees and the donation of three cars to the Kano State Football Referees Council, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kano Chapter, and the Nationwide League One (NLO) Kano Forum.
According to a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ismail Mudashir, the organizations headed by senior sports figure Salisu Ibrahim (Alhaji Danladi) praised Senator Barau for what they described as “outstanding contributions to sports and youth development in the country.”
“We are here to truly thank you for all that you do for us. To be honest, there isn’t a single senator in Nigeria like you. Ibrahim remarked, “Your dedication to sports and youth development is unparalleled.”
In response, Senator Barau expressed gratitude to the associations for the honor and reaffirmed his dedication to the advancement of youth and sports.
“Nothing is too much for our youths, which is why I have made numerous interventions in education, youth development, and sports,” he stated. I’ll keep doing this with all of my might.
The presentation of an award of excellence to Senator Barau in appreciation of his services to the nation’s youth and sports development was the visit’s high point.
