The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondoaver Berger Alfred Emberga, has given the contractor renovating the Assembly Complex a 15-day ultimatum to finish the project. During an inspection on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, the lawmakers found that the contractor had abandoned the site and locked the premises, despite allegedly receiving full payment for the work.
Describing the delay as “unacceptable,” Speaker Emberga noted that it is disrupting legislative activities and forcing members to use plastic chairs for plenary sessions. He warned that if the contractor fails to complete and hand over the complex by the end of October, the House will officially petition the EFCC and ICPC to investigate potential financial misconduct.
The Speaker also indicated that officials from the Ministry of Works may be summoned to present the contract documents for a thorough review of the project’s specifications. Rt. Hon. Emberga stressed the Assembly’s determination to ensure the 2026 budget presentation by the Governor takes place in a fully renovated and functional complex.
