All Democratic Alliance, ADA, and other new political party registration requests are now being processed, according to a statement released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, on Wednesday.
This comes just 24 hours after the commission declared that ADA, a platform created by a group of opposition leaders, had not yet complied with registration criteria.
Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the commission’s chairman, said in a statement released on Wednesday that ADA was one of 110 new parties being evaluated for registration.
Part of the statement reads, “as at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties.
“We are attentively handling the requests in accordance with our Regulations and Guidelines and the legal procedures.
“With the exception of six requests that were received recently, which will be addressed before the end of the week, we have acknowledged every request that has been received thus far.
“I want to emphasize that the handbook with the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties 2022 is already available on the Commission’s website for Nigerians, especially those who are interested in registering new political parties.”
