In an attempt to bolster the nation’s battle against insecurity, former Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) has advocated for greater recruitment, ongoing training, and better welfare for Nigeria’s security forces.
Buratai made the call while discussing the difficulties facing security operations, an increase in banditry, and kidnappings in an interview on TVC.
In response to worries that criminals frequently communicate openly, release videos, and even record live during operations, Buratai stated that he does not think security authorities are unable to monitor them.

He emphasized the need for ongoing system development, pointing out that there might be operational reasons for some delays or challenges in responding to illegal activity.
“Continuous capacity building across all security agencies is necessary, but I wouldn’t say it’s just a capacity challenge,” he continued.
Buratai also emphasized the significance of expanding the security sector’s workforce.
He claimed that in order to successfully address the nation’s mounting security challenges, more staff are required.
More workers are required. We need to train and retrain more police officers and enlist more military,” he stated.
He also emphasized that in order to boost security personnel’s productivity and morale, their welfare—including housing and working conditions—should be given top priority.

Buratai clarified that the military already has specialized troops for high-risk rescue missions.
According to him, the Nigerian Army has special forces and rescue teams that can manage intricate operations, while the Nigerian Navy has special boat services prepared for specialized tasks.

Buratai also suggested improving cooperation within the national security architecture, especially through the counterterrorism center of the Office of the National Security Adviser.
There is a counterterrorism center at the Office of the National Security Adviser. Coordination will be improved if it can be expanded to include state branches with excellent operations centers and highly technical equipment, he said. Such decentralized systems, in his opinion, would increase reaction to threats nationwide and foster cooperation among security services.
