Bye-election: Ibadan North’s 19 political parties compete for a vacant seat

Nineteen political parties will run in the upcoming bye-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This statement was delivered by Dr. Adeniran Tella, the Oyo State resident electoral commissioner, during a stakeholder meeting in the state capital of Ibadan.

According to the DAILY POST, INEC has scheduled the bye-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency for Saturday, August 16, 2025.

The election became necessary owing to the death of the last occupant of the seat, Hon Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi.

Akinremi died in July last year.

Tella, while addressing the gathering, noted that 19 political parties have indicated interest to participate in the election.

He underlined the commission’s dedication to holding a peaceful and legitimate election.

“The commission anticipates receiving the remaining things, including sensitive materials, before to the poll. It has already received some non-sensitive election materials.

It is anticipated that 19 political parties will take part in the bye-election.

“This bye-election’s success depends on our shared dedication to equity, openness, and inclusivity. “Let us use this as a template for elections in the future,” he urged.
