According to Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, political figures who have united to join the anti-Tinunu alliance have a same goal in mind.
El-Rufai claims that a group of urban gangs are aiming to destroy Nigeria.
El-Rufai said this in an interview on Arise News on Monday night, adding that the leadership’s mindset has given him a sense of empowerment and encouragement.
According to the former Federal Capital Territory Minister, at least for the time being, none of the coalition leaders “are talking about his aspiration.”
“Well, I’m sure they would [discuss aspiration later] because we are politicians and power-hungry students,” he remarked.
“So yes, they will do that, but nobody is talking about, ‘I want to be the president or, you know, leave this for me’ and so on.
“Everybody is saying, ‘we have a problem. This country is targeted for destruction by a collection of urban bandits. Let’s come together, send them back home and put this country back on track.’
“It is about fixing the country. Nobody is talking about his ambition, and that has been very good so far. And I’m encouraged.”
One of the main players that helped Tinubu become president in 2023, El-Rufai, has recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
A prominent figure in the anti-Tinubu movement, he has maintained that the former governor of Lagos State will not be allowed to return to the presidential palace following the 2027 election.
