Following his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on counts of sexual offenses, including rape, Russell Brand was released on bail. The 49-year-old spoke just to verify his name, residence, and date of birth during the brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. He also assured the judge that he understood the terms of his bail. Brand, who now lives in the United States, was formally charged by post last month with one count each of rape, oral rape, and indecent assault, as well as two counts of sexual assault, related to alleged occurrences involving four different women between 1999 and 2005, according to Sky News.

The judge referred the case up to the Crown Court, also known as the Old Bailey, and ordered Brand to appear on May 30. He is also accused of sexually assaulting another woman between 2004 and 2005 and of indecently assaulting a woman in 2001 by “grabbing her arm and dragging her toward a men’s toilet.” Both alleged incidents are said to have occurred in Westminster, London.
Brand gave the court his addresses in the US and the UK and attested to his comprehension of the terms of his bail. Before exiting the courtroom after the hearing, he thanked the judge. In a video that was uploaded to X following his original charges, Brand expressed his gratitude to his followers by saying, “I am now going to have the opportunity to defend these charges in court.” Brand referenced going back to his country and that he looks forward to establishing his innocence in a social media video. From 2006 to 2008, Brand presented a BBC Radio 2 program. However, he left the show due to controversy regarding a pornographic voicemail he left for actor Andrew Sachs, which became known as “Sachsgate.”
