Yesterday, Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote established a N1 trillion education fund with the goal of lowering the financial obstacles that prevent millions of young Nigerians from attending school. The Aliko Dangote Foundation was the driving force behind the Education Support Initiative education fund. He claims that the N1 trillion expected to endure for ten years will use N100 billion a year. According to him, the plan will assist 45,000 new students annually starting in 2026, increasing to 155,000 beneficiaries by the fourth year and staying there for 10 years.It is anticipated that the program will reach 1.3 million pupils in all 774 local government districts. The effort, he continued, consists of four programs aimed at areas with the highest rates of educational exclusion. Every year, 30,000 undergraduate students studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) at Nigeria’s public universities and polytechnics will receive funding under the Aliko Dangote STEM Scholars program. He stated, “The beneficiaries’ tuition will be aligned with actual institutional fees.” According to Dangote, the assistance is targeted at Nigeria’s most vulnerable students, pointing out that many drop out of school due to financial difficulties more than a lack of aptitude.
