The Delta North Coalition For Equity (DNCE) has expressed concern that key appointments and decision-making processes in Delta State are still centralized within Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s structure, which is marginalizing longtime All Progressive Congress (APC) loyalists.
The coalition appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the APC National Chairman, and other authorities to intervene and ensure a fair and equitable process for integrating members in the state.
The appeal was made by DNCE Chairman and state APC leader, Barr. Alex Ikpeazu, and Secretary, Kaemmer Emina, during a strategic meeting with representatives from the nine local government areas of the Delta North Senatorial District. They stressed the need to strengthen party unity by genuinely recognizing and integrating committed stakeholders who have sustained the APC in Delta State for years.
Ikpeazu highlighted that long-standing APC members feel increasingly ignored following Governor Oborevwori’s defection and the subsequent dominance of his structure. He warned that this situation undermines party cohesion and conflicts with the “Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda.”
Describing the meeting as “historic and strategic,” Ikpeazu stated that Governor Oborevwori joined an already existing APC structure in the state. Therefore, he argued that political fairness and the strategic alignment of both the old and new structures are crucial as the 2027 election approaches.
Reaffirming that the coalition is not being rebellious but is calling for equity, balance, and proper integration, he urged the Governor—who has shown genuine commitment to infrastructure delivery—to apply the same passion to integrate old APC members into the state government to complete his MORE Agenda.
The coalition suggested that the 40/60 percent power-sharing formula (for government and party structure) used in states like Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa should be applied in Delta State to strengthen grassroots party loyalty for a complete victory in the 2027 elections. They further advised the Governor to dissolve and reconstitute his cabinet to reflect a fair, inclusive, and united APC as the 2027 elections near.
The DNCE concluded that the movement for equity is gaining momentum and should not be overlooked, insisting that fairness, inclusion, and respect for long-standing party loyalists must prevail for the success of the APC.
Chief Barr. Ifeanyi Agholor supported the coalition, stating that grassroots members feel abandoned and that appointments still reflect the former PDP pattern, contrary to President Tinubu’s style of full integration.
During deliberations, Mr. Kenneth Rafua questioned the idea that “there is no old or new APC,” noting that no real steps have been taken to foster unity, leaving long-standing members frustrated. Chief Joe Nwaoyo condemned party leaders who remain silent because they are personally benefiting from the government. Dr. Chris Okoba urged the Governor to demonstrate genuine commitment to the APC in Delta State through balanced appointments and cabinet restructuring.
