Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has dismissed Fred Itua from his role as Chief Press Secretary (CPS).
DAILY POST reported that the Secretary to the State government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, confirmed the removal in a statement dated December 4, 2025, and released to the press in Benin-City.
Ikhilor did not provide a specific reason for the sack but immediately announced the appointment of Dr. Patrick Ebojele as the new Chief Press Secretary.
DAILY POST gathered that Fred Itua was allegedly relieved of his duties by the Governor due to poor performance.
The statement noted that the appointment of Dr. Ebojele demonstrates the administration’s commitment to strengthen and improve the communication channels between the Government and the people of Edo State, aiming for clarity, transparency, and effective dissemination of policies and activities.
The announcement read in part: “The Edo State Government wishes to notify the general public that His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, has approved the appointment of Dr Ebojele Akhere Patrick as the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor.”
“Dr Ebojele Akhere Patrick is a renowned journalist, public administrator, researcher, and lecturer with an extensive and distinguished professional record in media practice, public affairs, and academia.”
The statement also mentioned that Dr. Ebojele’s journalism career includes roles as the Edo/Delta Correspondent for Channels Television, and correspondent positions with the New Nigerian Newspaper, Champion Newspaper, and Comet Newspapers.
“Dr. Ebojele will be taking over from Mr. Fred Itua, who will, upon handover, await a new reassignment to be communicated in due course. The Government expresses appreciation to Mr. Itua for his contributions and service,” the statement concluded.
Before his appointment, Dr. Ebojele was a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.
