Nigerian players will use the fifth edition of the Emmanuel Egbele Annual Scrabble Tournament (EEAST) as an important warm-up for the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC), which is set to occur this November in Accra, Ghana.
Emmanuel Egbele, the tournament’s chief convener and South-West coordinator of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, characterized this year’s “Quinta Essentia” edition as crucial for shaping the country’s representation at the global championship.
As we know, EEAST is always open to everyone, including players from all over the country and international players as well,” Egbele stated. “The edition for this year is of great importance. As you are aware, the WESPAC is returning to Africa for the second time, this time in Accra, Ghana, following its 2007 hosting in Kenya. This renders the EEAST extremely important, as the Nigeria Scrabble Federation will closely examine it as a way to identify some of the top players who will represent the country on the world stage. ”
