EndSarsProtest: According to Aisha Yesufu, the Nigerian government acted like terrorists

Prominent political activist Aisha Yesufu asserts that the Nigerian government behaved like a terrorist organization by deliberately killing its own citizens during the 2020 EndSARS protests. Speaking on the fifth-year commemoration of the tragic events, Yesufu lamented the heartbreaking memory of security operatives—who are meant to protect the nation—turning their weapons on Nigerian youth.

She emphasized that the widely supported protest was not merely exhausted, but was “killed off” when military officers opened fire on peaceful demonstrators who were simply reciting the national anthem and waving the Nigerian flag at the Lekki toll gate.

Yesufu’s core concern is that the events of “20-10-2020” conclusively demonstrated to Nigerians that security agencies “can kill Nigerians and nothing would happen.” She condemned the actions against the highly organized young people leading the movement, framing the government’s violent response as an egregious act of state-sponsored terror against its own populace.
