Yesterday, the Federal Government was requested by the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA) to postpone the proposed implementation of a 15% import tax on gasoline and diesel. The coalition of civil society organizations cautioned that the action would exacerbate the current economic crisis and lead to a dramatic increase in pump prices. According to the organization, the policy shouldn’t be put into effect until domestic refining capacity can meet at least 80% of the country’s demand.
