The mass trial of alleged terrorists accused of terrorist offenses started on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The trial, which typically takes place at Kainji in Niger, was transferred to the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja because the court is now on Easter break, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
All court divisions will resume regular court sessions on Tuesday, April 14 after the vacation, which starts on Tuesday, April 7, ends on April 13.
According to NAN, terrorism cases are currently occupying the 13 courts of the Abuja FHC.
Judges Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, and Akpan Ekerete are a few of the trial judges.
Aliyu Abubakar, Director General of the Legal Aide Council, headed the team of attorneys representing the 20 suspected terrorists before Justice Nyako, while Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, led the team representing the Federal Government.
Hamat Modu, Isah Ali, Awal Bello, Shehu Bukar, Alhaji Kulle, Mohammed Abacha Hassan, Aminami Mallum, Tasiu Yakubu, and Abdullahi Ali are a few of the alleged terrorists on Nyako’s cause list.
According to NAN, there was a significant increase in security in and around the Abuja Federal High Court, with police helicopters circling the Central Business District and armed security officers blocking all roads leading to the court.
