The legend of Arsenal also lamented the passing of Diogo Jota, a forward for Liverpool.
Jota and his brother Andre perished in a car accident in Spainufai, while Rufai passed away on Thursday following a protracted illness.

Reacting, Kanu in a post on his X account, described the sad news as a dark day in football.
The former Inter Milan and Ajax star, however, prayed for their souls to rest in peace.
“A dark day in football today. We lost an African Legend, Peter Rufai. May his soul rest well, Amen,” Kanu wrote on X.
“Hard to post this may your spirit continue to inspire all of us and future generations RIP condolences to your family.”
