A prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, alleges that foreign entities are supporting terrorists within Nigeria.
In an interview with BBC Hausa Service, Sheikh Gumi claimed that the way recent attacks have occurred throughout the nation points to outside assistance for the armed groups active in Nigeria.
The cleric stated that the current situation does not align with previous indications that the country’s security was getting better.
He specifically mentioned the Abuja–Kaduna highway, which used to be very dangerous for travelers, noting that the road had become much safer recently before the current increase in violence.
He also noted that farmers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, who had stopped working their land because of continuous threats, had slowly started farming again, suggesting that the security situation had become more stable before the newest wave of attacks.
Gumi maintained that this sudden decline in improvement raises significant questions that must be addressed. He advised the Nigerian government to boost intelligence gathering, strengthen international diplomatic efforts, and examine all foreign connections that might be contributing to the nation’s insecurity.
