Coco Gauff defeated Jessica Pegula in straight sets to win the Wuhan Open, making her the first player to win nine successive hard court finals. The 21-year-old world number three defeated her American opponent 6-4 7-5 to win her 11th overall career singles title. In her winning speech, Gauff said, “I want to thank my team; it was a great Asian swing [of tournaments].” Making her second appearance at the Wuhan Open, the French Open champion fell behind 3-0 in the second set but rallied to cut the score to 5-3 before winning four straight games to complete the triumph.
