Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a Former Presidential Adviser, has expressed worry regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing silence following the recent firm position taken by the United States on Nigeria.
In a message shared on his confirmed Facebook page on Thursday, Baba-Ahmed stated that the president should have personally addressed the nation by this time.
According to him, “If President Tinubu genuinely has capable advisers and grasps the seriousness of leadership, he should have communicated with Nigerians already.”
“This is not the moment for ministers or assistants to issue public statements. The President himself should reassure the nation, clarify our stance, and announce the actions he plans to pursue.”
He warned that the president’s lack of communication suggests the image of a weak nation.
He said: “This silence implies we possess no influence or clear path.”
Responding to rumors that President Tinubu might be planning a trip to the United States to meet with Donald Trump, Baba-Ahmed advised against such an action.
He stated: “At this critical juncture, Tinubu should not even contemplate traveling to America to meet Trump. Doing so would harm Nigeria’s reputation even more. It would resemble receiving a blow and smiling back.”
He also criticized the administration for its failure to appoint ambassadors more than a year after assuming office.
“We have mentioned it repeatedly: appoint ambassadors. Currently, many countries barely interact with Nigeria because we lack official diplomatic representation.”
He said: “A country without ambassadors is essentially invisible in worldwide matters.”
Baba-Ahmed urged the president to act rapidly: “If Tinubu pays attention to those who truly care about this nation, he must act immediately, appoint ambassadors, restore Nigeria’s diplomatic power, and communicate directly to the populace he governs.”
