The Gombe State Executive Council has approved the construction of a new Deputy Governor’s Office, priced at N1.3 billion, and a modern Fire Service Headquarters, estimated at N1.2 billion. These projects are intended to boost administrative effectiveness and strengthen emergency response capabilities throughout the state.
These approvals were granted during the 50th State Executive Council meeting held on Monday at the Gombe Arena and chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
Following the meeting, Usman Kallamu, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, announced the decisions, explaining that the new Deputy Governor’s Office would be strategically positioned next to the Government House at the Old Gombe Jewel Suites site to improve collaboration and communication between the two offices.
Kallamu stated, “Currently, the Deputy Governor’s Office is situated far from the Government House, which negatively impacts administrative synergy.”
“The council has approved N1,337,885,743.75 for the construction of a new office complex to resolve this issue,” he confirmed.
The commissioner also revealed that the council sanctioned N1.3 billion for the completion of five mega secondary schools across the state, underscoring the Yahaya administration’s dedication to increasing access to quality education.
To enhance the state’s capability for emergency response, the council approved N1,275,236,520 for the construction of a modern Gombe State Fire Service Headquarters.
According to Kallamu, this facility will function as a centralized and well-equipped base for fire and rescue operations, ending years of relying on temporary offices.
He added, “This project will not only increase the operational effectiveness of fire personnel but also assist in protecting lives, property, and essential infrastructure throughout Gombe.”
In addition to these main projects, the council sanctioned N461.8 million for the construction of a new Divisional Police Station in the Shehu Abubakar District.
He noted that the new police facility has been redesigned to meet contemporary policing and urban development standards.
The Yahaya-led government has, in recent years, emphasized capital investment and citizen participation in governance.
The state’s 2024 budget of N208.06 billion allocated 58% to capital projects and 42% to recurrent expenditure, illustrating its development strategy focused on infrastructure.
The state government indicated that the most recent approvals are part of its continuing strategy to upgrade public infrastructure, improve service delivery, and establish Gombe as one of the most administratively efficient and disaster-prepared states in northern Nigeria.
