Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has advised the state’s traditional leaders to refrain from financial mismanagement, absenteeism, and pointless travel, as these actions jeopardize public trust in traditional institutions and administration.
At Rilwanu Suleimanu Adamu Square, Government House, Bauchi, the governor issued the warning when government vehicles were being distributed to traditional institutions.
He voiced alarm over reports of some traditional rulers’ suspected corruption and frequent absences from duty, cautioning that such actions undermine public trust and damage governance mechanisms.
Your contributions are essential to our communities’ stability. In terms of responsibility and service, you must not be found lacking. The governor declared that “mismanagement of resources and needless travel at the expense of your duties will not be tolerated.”
He went on to say that traditional leaders have important roles in upholding government programs, fostering development, and preserving peace, and he urged them to provide an example of accountability and openness.
Mohammed added that any traditional ruler found guilty of wrongdoing would face immediate consequences from his administration.
