Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has rejected allegations that bandits are currently occupying any territory within the state.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi on Monday at the Arewa Broadcast Media Practitioners’ Forum 2025 Media and Security Summit, Idris stated that the state administration has made headway in addressing the security problems inherited from the preceding government.
He elaborated that the government has supplied logistical and other assistance to security organizations to improve their effectiveness.
The governor claimed, “Bandits in Kebbi operate on a temporary basis; they carry out an attack and then escape into neighboring states.”
He added, “We are cooperating with security agencies to manage the situation, especially in regions affected by the Lakurawa bandits.”
The governor emphasized the state’s ongoing dedication to guaranteeing the safety of citizens’ lives and assets.
Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Minister of Interior, who gave the main address, cautioned that Northern Nigeria is facing severe dangers that could destabilize the region if immediate action is not taken.
He named poverty, lack of education, extremism, and failing social structures as the principal factors fueling insecurity in the North.
The summit, which focused on the theme “Existential Threats and National Security,” saw the attendance of government representatives, security commanders, media professionals, and traditional leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III.
