Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has given the green light to hire 1,000 new teachers for the state’s primary and junior secondary schools.
The announcement was made by the Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, following a meeting with the 13 local government executive chairmen in Lafia.
Dr. Kassim explained that a seven-person committee—with four members from NSUBEB and three from the council chairmen—will soon be established. This body’s purpose is to speed up the hiring, ensuring the process is transparent and based solely on merit.
He thanked the Governor for listening to the public and parents who want better public education, noting that the move will greatly boost the state’s teaching staff. Dr. Kassim praised the Governor for once again showing his dedication to enhancing basic education, which he called the “foundation of every child’s development.”
The NSUBEB chairman also mentioned that to further tackle the ongoing teacher deficit, the government has already reassigned 1,900 administrative staff who hold teaching credentials back to classroom duties.
He concluded that these steps underline the administration’s overall goal of revitalizing the education sector and guaranteeing that all children in Nasarawa State receive quality, functional basic education.
