Biodun Oyebanji, the governor of Ekiti State, has thanked the state’s citizens for their overwhelming support, which helped him win reelection on June 20.
Governor Oyebanji expressed his continued gratitude to Ekitikete for their unanimity in granting him a four-year extension and for making sure that all 16 of the state’s local government areas held peaceful and orderly elections.
In a statement released in Ado-Ekiti on Monday by his Special Advisor on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, the governor expressed gratitude to the people for both the historic re-election and for establishing what he called a standard for peaceful elections in the nation.
The governor stated that the election on Saturday was peaceful due to the people’s excellent behaviour prior to, during, and following the roughly three-month-long electioneering period. He went on to say that leaders and stakeholders from all spheres of society should be commended for their contributions to maintaining peace.
Additionally, Governor Oyebanjial invited Dr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ambassador Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Party (ADC) to collaborate with him in creating a more prosperous Ekiti State.
“I owe all Ekiti sons and daughters, at home and in the diaspora, a debt of gratitude for their overwhelming support and for the fresh mandate to serve for another four years,” the statement said in part. I am genuinely humbled by this, and I am grateful for the trust.
Most importantly, I want to express my gratitude to Ekitikete for their purposeful dedication to guaranteeing a peaceful election free from bloodshed and violence, thereby establishing a new benchmark for electoral behaviour.
“We are deeply grateful to the leaders of political parties and religious organisations for advocating and modelling peaceful coexistence, as well as to our traditional rulers for fostering peace in their territories.
Additionally, we would like to express our profound appreciation to the former state governors Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Chief Ayodele Fayose, and Engineer. Segun Oni and Dr. Kayode Fayemi—for their backing of the government and dedication to the unification and advancement of Ekiti State.
We would especially like to thank the members of the National and State Assemblies, the State Executive Council, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), and the Campaign Council, which is headed by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader.
“We applaud the leaders and staff of all security agencies, including the Army, Police, DSS, and other paramilitary groups, for their professionalism and the successful interagency cooperation in maintaining peace prior to, during, and following the election.
“We are equally thankful to leaders of labour unions, workers, teachers, local government employees, the media, youth and student bodies, artisans, market women, transport unions, and commercial motorcyclists, as well as to members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for their dedication and generosity in victory.”
Governor Oyebanji also pointed out that the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, conducted the election much better than it had in the past, characterising it as a notable improvement. He credited President Bola AmTinubu’s new Electoral Act and the commitment of INEC employees for this.
In order to increase the benefits of democracy during his second term, the governor reaffirmed his pledge to work harder and more effectively. Additionally, he thanked God for his administration’s accomplishments over the previous three years and eight months.
