How Ramat Didn’t Get the NERC Chairmanship

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu asked the Senate to approve two candidates to serve as commissioners of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). However, the name of the previously nominated NERC chairman, Engineer Ramat, was noticeably absent from the request, which was conveyed in a letter read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In compliance with section 35 subsections 1 and 3 of the Electricity Act 2023, Tinubu, I am happy to submit for Senate confirmation the nomination of the following two individuals as commissioners in the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. “Aisha Mahmoud Kanti-Bello (commissioner), reappointment” and “Fouad Animashaun (commissioner), new appointment” were the names he gave the nominees. “This appointment supersedes my earlier submission via a letter dated 6th August 2025,” the president added.
