Participants in Senior Course 47 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, have been tasked by Rivers State Sole Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rted.) to make sure that their study trip reports offer workable answers to the urgent security issues confronting the country.
During the Senior Course 47 participants’ courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, Ibas took command.
Ibas, who was accompanied by Prof. Ibibia Worika, the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized the importance of their research tour to the state in light of the ongoing security threats to people’s lives and property that have forced the current administration to step in.
Hector Igbikiowubo, the sole administrator’s media assistant, sent a statement to reporters that included this information.
The lone administrator emphasized the significance of obtaining reliable intelligence in order to combat insecurity, pointing out that security issues have a detrimental effect on economic output, lower government revenue, and discourage investment.
It challenges our deepest belief that our rural population is, of course, among those who supply the human capital that feeds insecurity in both urban and rural places,” he said.
Therefore, any research aimed at gathering intelligence from the ground up is worthwhile since internal security without adequate feedback systems will only be a pipe dream that will never be realized.
He urged the participants to ensure that their interactions with security agencies and other stakeholders, as well as the data collected, go beyond mere academic exercise and translate into practical, actionable strategies for enhancing security operations.
Ibas expressed confidence that the study would contribute to both academic scholarship and the broader security framework necessary for a safer and more secure Rivers State.
In his address, the Team Leader and Director of Logistics at AFCSC Jaji, Commodore S. O. Abdularaheen, explained that his team is one of nine groups currently on a study tour across selected states in Nigeria.
Abdularaheen further said the tour is part of this year’s research on the Nigerian environment as it relates to national security concerns.
He said the team is guided by the theme: “Harnessing Grassroots Intelligence for Enhanced Internal Security.”
He noted that their findings would be compiled into a research paper for the college, with recommendations expected to be adopted by relevant government agencies and organizations for implementation.
The visit underscores Rivers State’s commitment to collaborating with security institutions to develop sustainable solutions to insecurity, fostering a safer and more prosperous society.
