After an altercation involving their father, Emmanuel Odiniya, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command placed Ilebaye Odiniya, the 2023 Big Brother Naija winner, and her two younger brothers into protective care.
In an update released on Sunday, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, revealed that the reality TV star and her siblings were saved following the altercation over the weekend and sent for medical care.
Adeh states that “the Area Commander Metro, ACP Ufomadu Georglyn, rushed Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya Emmanuel (27 years old) and her two brothers, Godson Emmanuel Odiniya (14 years old) and Devin Emmanuel Odiniya (10 years old), to Yabisam Hospital, Lugbe, alongside their father, who also sustained injuries during the confrontation.”
“The rescued siblings are currently in police protective custody, contrary to circulating publications being released online, while their father, who is also receiving medical treatment, remains in police custody,” she continued.
The police spokeswoman added that all individuals will be questioned once physicians certified them medically stable and that investigations into the incident were still underway.
“Investigations are ongoing, and questioning will start as soon as the attending medical doctors certify all parties medically stable,” Adeh stated.
This came after Honourable Emmanuel Odiniya was arrested for allegedly assaulting his daughter at their home in Royal Anchor Estate, Wuye, Abuja.
On Saturday, a widely shared video of Ilebaye crying and clearly swollen during the brawl went viral on the internet, drawing attention to the incident.
Adeh confirmed the earlier intervention, saying that early on Friday morning, the police received a distress call about an ongoing assault.
“The FCT Police Command responded to a distress call from Royal Anchor Estate in Wuye, Abuja, on May 9, 2026, at approximately 12:00 a.m., reporting an ongoing physical assault on Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya Emmanuel by her father, Honourable Emmanuel Odiniya,” she stated.
Police said that Wuye Division officers and Department of Operations personnel were sent to the area right away.
“The gate to the residence was locked when the officers arrived. Around 2:30 a.m., admission to the facility was finally obtained after multiple tries. The statement said, “Ms. Ilebaye Odiniya, who was discovered with obvious bruises, was rescued alongside her brothers and taken to NNPC Hospital Abuja, where she received medical attention.”
According to Adeh, Honourable Odiniya was detained while detectives tried to ascertain the incident’s circumstances.
The conflict started when Ilebaye went to the family home to see her younger brothers and talk about plans for her 24th birthday celebration, according to the children’s mother, Mrs. Lami, who is apparently at odds with her husband.
She claims that after the father allegedly accused the reality TV star of being influenced by her mother, the conversation turned into a fight.
The incident has also brought the family’s long-running domestic conflict back into the public eye after the couple’s 32-year marriage failed.
According to reports, Mrs. Lami revealed that a court had previously given their father custody of the two boys, who were 11 and 14 years old.
