High-ranking members of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) are continuing to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State, posing serious issues.
Prominent members of the APC have left the party to join the ADC, causing a significant change in the party. Senator Sabo Nakudu, who is anticipated to run for governor in 2027, is one of the prominent individuals that defected on Monday.
His action ahead of important political events indicates a gradual shift in loyalty.
His defection raises concerns and ignites conversations about the shifting power dynamics in Jigawa politics, marking a notable wave of departures in the state.
As the ADC continues to gain traction, analysts think this realignment could change the political climate in the area.
Allegations of bad party management and the marginalization of powerful players by Governor Umar Namadi, whose leadership style has come under increased criticism inside the party, are commonly blamed for the growing dissatisfaction between him and his predecessor, Badaru Abubakar.
Political analysts attribute the problem to a tense relationship between Mr. Namadi and both his financial backer, Isa Gerawa, and his political patron, former governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
This incident comes at a time when Mohammed Badaru Abubakar was aggressively trying to secure President Tinubu’s victory in the state and beyond, according to a former defense minister’s ally who asked to remain anonymous.
He continued by saying that former governor Badaru Abubakar had been meeting with members of other political parties in an attempt to guarantee that the APC won widespread victories from the bottom up in addition to securing votes for Tinubu.
All attempts to get a balanced viewpoint from Mallam Hamisu, the governor’s spokesperson, or Bala Mamsa, the secretary to the state government, were futile.
