The Holy Quran has been successfully memorised by nine prisoners serving different sentences at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Wudil, Kano.
The Center’s 50th anniversary celebration took place at the same time as the milestone.
According to Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, the public relations officer for the Nigeria Correctional Service’s (CSC) Kano state command, some of the prisoners had little to no prior experience reciting the entire Qur’an when they were brought to the facility. However, with perseverance, discipline, and organised instruction, they were able to achieve complete memorisation.
According to Kofar Nasarawa, the accomplishments demonstrate the service’s ongoing dedication to the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of prisoners in accordance with the Correctional Service Act, 2019.
According to him, the Wudil Custodial Centre has continued to be a model custodial facility over time, offering inmates access to programmes for moral development, education, and vocational training.
Additionally, he stated that the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, was commended by the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, for his directives encouraging educational and skill-building programmes across custodial centres nationwide.
He claimed that these programmes were essential to giving prisoners the tools they needed to become independent and successfully reintegrate into society.
CSC Ibrahim Wada Ibrahim, the Officer-in-Charge of MSCC Wudil, expressed gratitude for the State Command’s assistance and described the accomplishments as an indication of strong leadership and dedication to the development of prisoners.
Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, Vice Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, praised the Command’s efforts to change the lives of prisoners, pointing out that these programmes greatly help to reposition them as responsible members of society.
